Welcome once again to the latest edition of the Depeche Mode News letter.

Firstly we must apologise for the late arrival of the letter, but due to difficulties obtaining information, there has been a slight delay.

Anyway, it appears that we made a couple of errors in the last news letter which Andy Fletcher and several observant fans told us about.

1. We did not include the L.P. "Construction Time Again."

STUMM 13 "Construction Time Again" Available as LP and Cassette.
Released September 1983
Reached Number 6 in chart

Track Listing: "Love In Itself" "More Than A Party" "Pipeline" "Everything Counts" "Two Minute Warning" "Shame" "The Landscape Is Changing" "Told You So" "And Then.."

2. It also appears there was a song titled "Substitute" on "Speak & Spell" L.P. This was a typing error and actually meant that the song "Dreaming of me" was substituted for "Sometimes I wish I was Dead" [sic].

We hope we didn't cause too much confusion.

Anyway, here is the Depeche Mode story so far (Part 1):-

Depeche Mode have been one of the most constantly successful new British pop acts of the Eighties. All of their single releases in the last five years have been British chart hits, developing into major successes in many countries around the world, and their six L.P.s; "Speak and Spell", "A Broken Frame", "Construction Time Again", "Some Great Reward", "The Singles 81-85" and "Black Celebration" have all been top ten best sellers.

The four members of Depeche Mode are Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher and Alan Wilder.

Since the release of their first single "Dreaming of Me", Depeche Mode have grown and developed and, as a Record Mirror writer pointed out on the release of their third LP, "After two and a half years of producing electronic pop songs which sound as good on headphones as they feel on the dance floor, the unbelievers must realise that this is one band who won't be disappearing in a puff of fashionable smoke."

Depeche Mode are triple-talented - they make excellent records, they have a great live show combining impressive lighting and visuals with stunning sound and they write brilliant hit songs, most coming from the prolific pen of Martin Gore.

The Depeche Mode story began in Basildon, Essex, where the members attended different schools. Originally a threesome: Andy and Martin plus Vince Clarke, they featured two guitars and a synthesizer. Then David Gahan joined as singer. They discovered a new name while flicking through a French clothing magazine - "Depeche Mode" (Fast Fashion), it sounded good, only now the guitars and single synthesizer didn't. So they ditched the strings and all three instrumentalists began playing synths.

Their demo tapes stirred little or no interest with the big London record companies, but while supporting Fad Gadget at the Bridgehouse in Canning Town they met Daniel Miller, founder of Mute Records. He was impressed from the first song, signed them and issued the debut single, "Dreaming Of Me".
