Collection of snippets from the NME: Brief news article on the forthcoming Songs Of Faith And Devotion tour, advert for the Crystal Palace date, and first part of a discography with accompanying text.

[Article]
Depeche Mode are playing their first UK date for two-and-a-half years at London's Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on July 31, NME can exclusively confirm.

The date, which will be Depeche's only UK date this year, will bring an end to their Europe-wide 'Devotional Tour' which is due to begin in France in May. The last time they played was the 'Violator Tour' which ended in December 1990.

The Sisters Of Mercy are the only support confirmed for the show, which will be the first of its kind at the 35,000 capacity south London venue - traditionally the home of British athletics.

Tickets for the UK date, priced £18.50, will first go on sale through Channel 4's Big Breakfast tomorrow (Thursday), on an exclusive phone line.

They then go on general sale on Friday from the sports centre, usual agents, or for credit card bookings on 081-900 1234, 071-403 3331, 071-734 8932 and 081-778 0131.

The Basildon boys will also release 'Walking In My Shoes' on April 26, the second single from their acclaimed 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion' album.

As well as the previously released track 'My Joy' [1], the single will feature new remixes by Spirit Feel, Johnny Dollar and William Orbit across the formats.

[Discography Introduction]
It was all a piece of innocent fun right back there at the beginning. Basildon bop; it couldn't last long, everyone reckoned. Especially after Vince Clarke opted for the big heave-ho. It seems pointless to reflect that everyone was WRONG. Better to dwell on the fact that, since then, the Mode's moved on to become an industry in itself. If you don't believe it, then just browse through the discography and keep in mind the fact that there are also scores of differing overseas issues. The ultimate tally of releases over a relatively short period is truly awe-inspiring, which is why this discography is a two-parter. But just imagine how many there would have been if Messrs Gore, Wilder and Fletcher hadn't taken a year's sabbatical before starting 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion'!

[1] - Oh no it wasn't!
