During the red carpet interviews, Dave also revealed that he was working on a solo album that would become 'Hourglass'.
Dave Gahan told Artisannews :
"Well I was asked to do it, which I was honored to be asked and like I said some of the people involved in it were instrumental in getting me help and pointing me in the right direction, years ago. So, it's weird that life goes like that, when you're awake and showing up for it, things happen. I think it was a couple of phone calls. I know that John was asked to do it and then I was asked to do it and I was like "Is John doing it?" and it's one of those kind of things. And the chance to go out and play with him, he's quite a fan of Depeche Mode and it's great. I'm a big fan of what he does."

- Here I am tonight being honored by Mapp getting Stevie Ray Vaughan award who is somebody that actually inspired me that as a musician and as a person with substance abuse I could find the other side of it you know I can look at someone like Stevie Ray Vaughan the sword's I've heard that mana guy was way worse than I ever was and he got help and and dealt with it and became like this amazing positive just almost like this touched by an angel inspiration
- so I get to be here and maybe in being a part of this and being honored set an example for other people they can look at me in a while beep man he said then so can I

Okay i was asked and you know some of the people that are involved in music cares we're kind of instrumental in getting me help when I needed it and you know we've still read long-standing relationships so this helps a lot of people and I was asked to do it so I flew out here with my family and he ran.
Well for me on a personal level it's like the first of all the bad the guy so I'm playing with it's like you know we've known each other for years and I've been through a lot of stuff as well and so it's like to actually get on stage and play with those people and that's what it's all about and they're not playing music together and you know you lose sight of that you know when you when you kind of go down that road of drugs and alcohol and and all that stuff and that becomes way more important than anything else and you kind of lose your spirit in your soul and I think the message that I would like to put out there is that you know you can get it back you know but you've got to make a choice and you know there can be a difficult choice it's kind of scary at first but I'm living proof that you can do inside there you go.
